The Horror Guru joins the Space Monkey Mafia!
Greetings gore-hounds,
I am the Horror Guru. But you may call me Josh, if you'd like. I host the riff/review/analysis show Blood Splattered Cinema in which I take on the weirdest, goriest and/or craziest films genre cinema has to offer. I also have a spin off series in which I compare classic horror films to their original source material - be they novels, comic books or anything in-between.
I was originally introduced to the video reviewing world back in 07, when I stumbled upon a young upstart by the name of Noah Antwiler and his crazy little show called the Spoony Experiment on Youtube. Shortly after I discovered the Nostalgia Critic, then the Angry Video Game Nerd and I was officially hooked. I really liked what these guys were doing and wanted so badly to start a fun show like theirs, but instead focus on my own passion: Horror films.
However I was knee-deep in film school and while I had the equipment to achieve what I wanted, I unfortunately did not have the time. As the years went by I watched in envy as the reviewing community grew and grew, but felt in my heart of hearts it would most likely be all but dead by the time I would be able to participate.
Then I graduated and entered the real world only to discover a crumbling economy has made it near-impossible to gain even an entry level job, much less one that actually utilizes my studied skills. So I spent half a year stabilizing my life, while working on a few screenplays on the side. It's been a difficult, and depressing time but thankfully it's proven fruitful in the creativity department.
A few months ago I remembered my desire to enter the reviewing world and upon seeing that it not only still exists but is thriving with multiple websites of talented people all collaborating - I knew what I had to do. So I spent some time gathering the necessary equipment, shot my pilot episode and by August Blood Splattered Cinema was born.
I never expected my show to be noticed by anyone, much less a site like this with so many amazing contributors. I know some may have heard me say this before, but it bears repeating: It is an absolute honor to be a member of this team. I hope under your watch and guidance my skills not only improve, but help everyone else's improve as well. This looks to be the start of something truly special for me, and I hope it is for all of you as well.
Rock on, my new Space Monkey Mafia brethren!
Sincerely,
Joshua Langland
