What Is the Shoeless Chuck Project?

I’ve always been the creative type. Ever since I was little, I had a pretty active imagination. I picked up my first drawing pad and pencil when I was about six. When I was in high school, I began to have aspirations of being a writer. I created my own characters and worlds, and even though I have not yet tied them all together in writing, there is a wealth of possibilities swirling around in my head. In college, I dabbled a bit in acting. Even though I thought I would never pursue a career in it, it was a lot of fun and I would totally do it again given the chance.

For the past six years, I have worked with video editing software to produce my own music videos. Most of these were tributes to video games, animes, and movies. As developed as my talent for this has become, and as much fun as I have working on these, I never really thought of filming my own original content and using it for documentation or entertainment.  Until now, at least.

So here’s the deal. I’ve found a way to combine everything I have learned through artistic endeavors into an internet show, which is quite possibly the largest project I have ever worked on (besides getting a college degree).  I’ve spent the last few years viewing the work of other professional critics and internet personalities, and found my inspiration to get started.

The bulk of my episodes will be reviews and commentary on video games and movies, mostly titles that I have encountered in the past. I’ve decided not to just talk about bad games or horrible movies. I will also showcase good ones as well. The show will basically be about whatever I want it to be about. The main focus of the project will involve these reviews, but there will be additional content.  Text reviews will be posted, as well as V-logs, commentary tracks, short films, and audio productions.

This is quite possibly the most difficult thing I have ever worked on. I am doing this all by my one-zee, and that entails recording and video capture, note-taking, scripting, filming, and finally, editing. The video capturing and editing don’t worry me much; I have experience in both. The scripting and filming will prove the larger challenge, as I do not have much experience in either. I am hoping that I learn as I go, developing my skills as well as my presence on camera, and ultimately will be able to make something that can entertain someone.

I am by no means a professional critic. Nor am I a professional entertainer. I am simply going to try my best, say what I really think, and do work that I can look at and be proud of. Putting myself and my opinions out there for all to see is a little intimidating and demands a large effort. But this is something I feel I will enjoy and may actually end up being pretty damn good at.

My thanks to my friends who have offered their help, to those who have inspired me, those who support me, and to viewers who appreciate and enjoy what I may create in the future.
